How to play Caribbean Stud Poker

by A.Aguilar

Caribbean Stud Poker is an online version of the game of ¨five card stud poker ¨, popularized on cruise ships sailing the Caribbean seas. Stud Poker is a fun and easy game to learn. You play the hand you're dealt - there are no draws in Stud - so you can not decide which cards to hold.

All players´ hands are pitted against the House, and not against each other. You receive your hand of cards and watch one of the cards on the dealer's hand. Then, you have the opportunity to fold or increase your bet to see if your hand beats the dealer's.

How to play

The player begins by placing a bet on the ¨ante¨ circle and pressing the ¨Play¨ button. Players are dealt five cards face down, while the dealer is dealt four cards face down and one face up. Players then evaluate their hands and decide one of two options:

1. Fold (pass) - Play stops and the player loses the amount wagered on the ante bet.

2. Play (plays) - The player places an additional wager in the betting area, known as the "Back Bet", that must be equal to twice the amount wagered on the ante.

The dealer then reveals his hand and compares them with the hand of the player if this is still in play. The dealer, however, must qualify with a hand that has at least an Ace and a King (Ace / King) or better. If the dealer fails to qualify, the players receive the same amount of money they wagered on the Ante, while the back bet is ignored (in other words, no money is paid on the additional wager made after the cards are dealt).

If the dealer has an Ace / King or better and their hand is higher than the one of the player, the player loses both the ante and the Back Bet wagers. If the player ´s hand is higher than the dealer´s, the player receives the same amount of money as on the ante plus a bonus based on the amount wagered on the Back Bet.

In case of tie, in which the player ´s hand is in a position equal to that of the Dealer, both bets push (neither get paid and the money is returned to the player).

Progressive Jackpot

Players can also participate in the optional Progressive Jackpot. The Progressive Jackpot wager is $1.00 per hand. To participate, insert a $1 chip in the slot above the Ante circle each time you want to participate in the Progressive Jackpot prize.
